Prior Authorization in New Mexico

Soft Home Global provides authorizations submitted ahead of the date of service and chased to a decision for New Mexico practices and billing companies at $1,900 per seat per month. Full time, worked during New Mexico business hours, inside your own system.

What is specific to New Mexico

New Mexico is a mostly rural state where a high share of residents are covered by Medicaid, most of it delivered through contracted managed care plans rather than fee-for-service.

New Mexico’s Medicaid program is New Mexico Medicaid (Turquoise Care). Practices with a meaningful New Mexico Medicaid (Turquoise Care) mix usually need it worked as its own queue rather than mixed into commercial follow-up, because the submission path, the timely filing window and the appeal route are all different.

Medicare here is adjudicated by Novitas Solutions, jurisdiction JH — shared with Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas, but not with Arizona (Noridian) or Utah (Noridian). CMS publishes the jurisdictions; checked September 2026.

What a prior authorization seat does in New Mexico

Submitted before the date of service and chased through the payer's decision window.

An authorisation found after the visit is a write-off, not a denial to appeal. In New Mexico the work is submitting ahead of scheduling and chasing the decision, against a payment clock that starts only once a clean claim lands.

  • Authorizations submitted ahead of scheduling, not after
  • Status chased rather than waited on
  • Peer-to-peer reviews scheduled when required
  • Clinical documentation gathered before submission
  • Expiring authorizations flagged before they lapse
  • Worked during New Mexico business hours, not queued overnight

For the statute behind all of this — New Mexico’s prompt-pay deadline, its Medicaid filing limit, and the wrinkle that catches people out here — see the New Mexico billing page.

New Mexico Medicaid (Turquoise Care), in practice

Near-universal managed care under Turquoise Care: "As of July 1, 2024, Turquoise Care members can choose from among four health plans, (also called Managed Care Organizations or MCOs)" — Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico, Molina Healthcare, Presbyterian Health Plan and United Healthcare Community Plan; the same page adds "Children in state custody will be enrolled in the Presbyterian Health Plan" and "Native American members always have the choice between enrolling with a health plan or using Fee for Service health care providers." New Mexico taxes health care services under its gross receipts tax, and Medicaid billing rules let the provider add that tax onto the claim itself — 8.302.2.10(H) NMAC states verbatim: "For providers subject and registered to pay, gross receipts tax, the provider may include gross receipt tax in the billed amount when the tax applies to the item or service." A biller working NM therefore has a tax component on the claim line that does not exist in most states. Source: New Mexico Administrative Code

For authorisations it decides who you ask. A carve-out means the rules, the portal and the turnaround belong to a different administrator from the one handling the rest of the member’s care, and an authorisation obtained from the wrong one is not an authorisation.

How long you have to file a New Mexico Medicaid (Turquoise Care) claim

90 calendar days from the date of service. A returned, denied or incorrectly paid claim: resubmit within 90 calendar days of the return, denial or payment.

“Claims for services must be received within 90 calendar days of the date of service unless an alternative filing limit is stated within this section.” 8.302.2.11 NMAC — Billing and Claims Filing Limitations

A claim past that date is not late, it is unpayable, and no appeal recovers it. It is the one queue where a week of nobody working it is money that does not come back — which is the argument for working New Mexico Medicaid (Turquoise Care) as its own queue rather than mixing it into commercial follow-up. Every state’s limit is listed here.

That date is also the outer edge of what a retrospective authorisation is worth. Payers will sometimes grant one after the fact, and practices treat that as the problem solved — but the claim still has to be filed inside the window above. An authorisation granted after it has closed is an administrative victory attached to money nobody can bill, which is why the authorisation queue and the filing clock have to be watched on the same screen rather than by two different people.

Working New Mexico hours

New Mexico runs on Mountain time, 12 hours behind our floor in Rawalpindi. To be at a desk for your nine to five, the shift here runs 9pm to 5am, and 8pm to 4am once the clocks go forward. Pakistan does not observe daylight saving, so the shift moves on this side rather than yours.

That is the part that decides whether follow-up happens at all: a payer’s phone lines are open on New Mexico hours and nobody else’s.

What it costs in New Mexico

$1,900

Per seat, per month, in US dollars — $22,800 a year for one full-time person, forty hours a week, on New Mexico hours. No annual contract, no percentage of collections, no setup fee and no software to buy. Seat prices across all roles in New Mexico run $1,500 to $2,500; the full list is published.

That is the entire invoice. Run your own figures against a percentage vendor or a hire rather than take ours.

Getting started in New Mexico

About a week from a signed agreement to a person working your queue, and that week of training is not billed on top. The week, step by step, and what is signed before anyone has access.

Under the federal CMS-0057-F rule, from 1 January 2026: 72 hours for an expedited request and seven calendar days for a standard one, for Medicaid fee-for-service and Medicaid managed care plans alike, counted in calendar time whether the request went by portal, fax or phone. No — a flat monthly rate per seat, published at softhomeglobal.com/pricing. A percentage bills you most in your best month and points the vendor at the easy accounts.
