New Mexico taxes health care services under its gross receipts tax, and Medicaid billing rules let the provider add that tax onto the claim itself — 8.302.2.10(H) NMAC states verbatim: "For providers subject and registered to pay, gross receipts tax, the provider may include gross receipt tax in the billed amount when the tax applies to the item or service." A biller working NM therefore has a tax component on the claim line that does not exist in most states. Source

A claim past that date is not late, it is unpayable, and no appeal recovers it.
